Claire and Caden have been taking karate for a couple of months now. At first I thought it might be something just Caden would be interested in. He needed an outlet for some of his energy. Clay was busy with football, Claire was playing soccer and I thought this would be something special Caden could do. But Claire was not going to be outdone by her little brother! I decided to let her go too, thinking she would tire of it after the first couple classes. But...she rocks!! She is so tall and her arms and legs are so long that she can punch and kick without the other kids being able to reach her. They both love it! The first Thursday of the month is "sparring night". They have to wear mouthpieces and Caden has to wear a cup. (He-he...I didn't know they made them this small:) They put on a big chest pad, shin guards, gloves and head gear and spar with the other kids in the class. Last week they had an "in-class" tournament for the white belts. Claire beat 1 girl and 4 boys to take first place! Caden held his own against the big kids and got fifth place.
